FILM FESTIVALS
The film festival events of Tampa Bay Film and the resource
for Tampa film festivals
HALLOWEEN
DRIVE-IN 2010
Four
people, alone in a car, park at a secluded Tampa Bay location for an evening
of viewing, and reviewing, some of the creepiest horror films ever made.
Soon, it will be dark outside of the car, and then, it will all begin.
On October 10, 2010, Tampa
Bay Film will begin its film festival line with its very first film festival,
as well as its first underground film festival. Purposely designed to
be the smallest film festival in the history of Tampa Bay, with a total
of four people in attendance, this tiny film festival, the 2010 Halloween
Drive-In, will demonstrate that an effective film festival can be done
with a minimal of resources.
The 2010 Halloween Drive-In will also be the most unique Tampa film festival
of all time, with the film festival being held in a car. Much like the
outdoor drive-in theaters of old, the 2010 Halloween Drive-In will screen
indie films, and horror movies, while the audience relaxes in a car. The
films will be screened on a portable DVD player, which will be a superior
movie experience to any drive-in, however, with no bulky speakers hanging
off of car doors.
The Halloween Drive-In was originally supposed to happen on October 25,
2009, but with four guests, and some last-minute cancellations from three
of the four participants, it was cancelled, and then rescheduled for October
10, 2010. The original 2009 Halloween Drive-In underground film festival
was created in protest to the cancellation of the 2009 Halloween
Horror Picture Show horror film festival, and it was designed
to be a private, underground film festival utilizing the highly creative
“film festival in a car” concept
envisioned by event planner C. A. Passinault. Passinault noted that a
film festival in a car, held at an isolated location, would be perfect
to screen horror films. After all, what could be scarier?
Originally, the 2010 Halloween Drive-In was supposed to be a radically
different underground film festival, expanded from the original, but with
the cancellation of the original horror film festival in a
car prototype, Passinault insisted upon rolling the original
concept out the following year, postponing the expanded version. The expanded
version is still planned, and its debut will be announced soon after the
2010 Halloween Drive-In.
The 2010 Halloween Drive-In underground film festival, although the smallest
Tampa film festival ever, will be just as effective as a large, conventional
film festival, with the same amount of coverage, as well as some features
of large film festivals which are relevant for the underground film festival.
This film festival will have full film festival coverage,
which includes interviews of the participants, a featured
article on Tampa Bay Film, a review of the film
festival, reviews of the screened films by the participants,
an event photography shoot, and a special video
of the underground film festival, which will be shown on the main Tampa
Bay Film article. There will also be an extensive behind-the-scenes
post on the Tampa Film Blog, and the video will
be showcased on the popular, and effective, Tampa
Bay Film Online Film Festival. The 2010 Halloween Drive-In
underground film festival will be one of the most unique, and creative,
film festivals ever done, and is expected to become something truly special,
and even legendary, in time.
Although the 2010 Halloween Drive-In is a film festival held in a car,
with the expanded underground film festival already in the planning stages,
this first one may end up becoming one of a kind for the Halloween Drive-In
series. Passinault has yet to decide what will be done in the future,
and if there will be additional underground film festivals in cars; especially
under the Halloween Drive-In branding as an official film festival of
the series.
This is the official site of the Halloween Drive-In underground film festival,
here on the Tampa Film Festivals Tampa Bay
Film site. Feel free to bookmark this page, as it is the main film
festival web site index, and expect the official web site, which
will not share the site design of Tampa Film Festivals,
to launch in October, 2010, just in time for the first film festival!
Because this is a private, invitation-only underground film festival,
the web site will not launch before the actual event, as marketing and
promotion will be done after the fact, instead of before-hand.
